As Donald Trump signed a major disaster declaration and activated federal emergency management resources in the state, a group of local officials and meteorologists criticized the NWS, though the agency warned of potential flooding on Thursday and in the early hours of Friday.
Some Texas officials claimed the forecasts drastically underestimated the amount of rainfall that would hit Kerr County. “The original forecast that we received Wednesday from the National Weather Service predicted 3-6 inches of rain in the Concho Valley and 4-8 inches in the Hill Country.
The amount of rain that fell at this specific location was never in any of those forecasts,” claimed Texas Emergency Management Chief W. Nim Kidd on Friday
