EastEnders legend dies ‘peacefully at home’ at the age of 88

The statement read: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved client, Frank Barrie, at the age of 88.

“He died peacefully at home, with his wife Mary and daughter Julia.”

Frank is best known for playing the role of singer Edward Bishop in a memorable stint on Albert Square from 2010 until 2011.

The leader of the local church choir embarked on a romance with Dot Cotton, played by the late June Brown, during his time on the show.

Outside of his stint in Walford, Frank was a member of Sir Laurence Olivier’s National Theatre Company at the Old Vic.

Praised for his work in Shakespearean and other stage roles, Frank appeared in the likes of The Woman In Black and Lunch With Marlene.

On top of performing his one-man show Macready! in 65 countries worldwide, Frank represented Great Britain at the 1982 Commonwealth Games Arts Festival in Australia.

Making more than 150 screen appearances over the course of his career, Frank appeared in Emergency Ward 10, No Hiding Place, Softly, Softly, Special Branch, On Giant’s Shoulders and Queen Of Swords
